Community Building
In my classroom, I want every activity that is done to build a sense of community among myself and the students. From Morning Meetings and Closing Circles to the physical layout of the room, my goal is to foster classroom community in everything that I do. Some ways in which I will promote classroom community in my classroom are included below.

Addressing Students Respectfully
I will address my students by their names and in a respectful tone. When addressing more than one student or the class as a whole, I might use the term "friends" or "3rd graders" or "boys and girls". Addressing students this way helps them to feel welcome and accepted.
Greeting Students Daily
In the future, I would love to be able to greet each and every student that I have as they enter the classroom in the morning. I feel that an inviting smile and welcome to the class each day will help to show students that I am here for them and genuinely care about seeing them each day.
Learning from Mistakes
To further build classroom community among students, I will use student mistakes and misunderstandings as an opportunity to learn. It will be an opportunity to learn about other's perceptions, other ways to solve problems, and an opportunity to learn from mistakes. Children will make mistakes, and we can all learn from them. I will treat mistakes tenderly and do my best to establish a community that understands that we all make mistakes, and that we can all learn and grow from them. Additionally, I will use my own mistakes as an opportunity to grown and learn, and share these experiences with the students.

Classroom Setup
The physical setup of the classroom is one in which classroom community is fostered. Students' desks will be placed in a way in which the students can view one another and the teacher, and this will also allow students to work with one another with ease.

Morning Meetings and Closing Circles
Both of these activities help to establish a strong sense of classroom community. Not only do students have the opportunities to talk and communicate with their peers, they will learn to present their thoughts and ideas in a respectful and appropriate manner. Additionally, students will learn to listen to others points of view, and act respectful towards peers while others are talking. Not only this, but Morning Meetings and Closing Circles make each and every student feel welcome and accepted by the rest of the class, which is important. Students need to feel accepted and safe before real learning can occur.
